Keto: Week two
In last week's update post I gave an introduction to my keto diet, and my stats after a week on it. This post is a quick update to give the stats after two weeks, and some notes on how it's going.
The stats
After two weeks on keto:
Stat | Starting | This week | Change |
---|---|---|---|
Fasting blood sugars | 6.8 mmol/L | 4.7 mmol/L | -2.1mmol/L |
Weight | 246lb | 238lb | -8lb |
Waist | 49" | 46" | -3" |
Thoughts and feelings
Overall, week two has been good: I'm not hungry, my energy is decent, I even managed a longer-than-usual walk. Towards the end of this week I started getting a bit bored of endless stir frys, so have introduced a second dinner recipe. I'm hoping to build up a selection of quick and easy recipes that I can rotate.
I'm finding myself wanting to snack tonight. I'm not hungry, but it's been an emotional day (my last day at my job), and the urge to comfort eat is strong. The key difference with other diets? Because I feel full, and my energy is steady, it's a lot easier to resist.
I've let up on the measuring. In week one, I did a fasting glucose test every day. I'm now just measuring everything once a week. My sugars have proven so stable, I don't feel the need to keep testing.
I have two weeks between jobs, and want to do a lot of walking: it seems to help my energy, and it's a good opportunity when I have the time.
So here's to week three!
