Discovering MY keto flu

Learning what keto flu looks like for me: how do I adapt to keto?

Everyone adapts differently to keto. There's a collection of symptoms known as 'keto flu' that refers to some common issues people experience early on keto, including things like nausea, fatigue, brain fog, and so on. Many of these are reduced or avoided if you get your electrolytes right.

However, I've now had two opportunities to test how my body does when adapting to keto. Thanks to a small(ish) blip on 25th July, I flipped out of ketosis. I got back on the diet the next day - and had astonishingly similar symptoms as first time round:

  • One day of very unhappy stomach.
  • Followed by one day of persistent headache.

This happened the first time round too. First time I hadn't quite got to grips with supplementing electrolytes, but this time I was fine with electrolytes. I ate the same both times.

I've dodged a lot of keto flu symptoms, probably thanks to a mix of electrolyte supplementation and easing into it. But it looks like my personal penalty for a high carb day is two days of my body readjusting to ketosis, and, erm, having opinions about it.

Not gonna lie, this is a fairly strong motivator to not have high carb days!
