Day 0
23rd May 2021
Starting weight: 19st 5lbs
Pre-bed blood glucose: 5.5 mmol/L
This is a pre-start day. After a couple of false starts, I decided that instead of starting the diet in the morning, I'd start with dinner. There were a couple of reasons for this:
- Professor Taylor suggests that most people on the diet feel hungry for the first 36hrs. This may be a nicer way of saying two days, but if it really does take just 36hrs to adjust, why not make that two nights and one day, rather than two days and one night?
- My sugars have been pretty high, so the first day of the diet involves a fairly miserable adjustment (I tend to get shakey and anxious as my sugars adjust from high to normal) Starting the diet in the evening allows me to sleep through some of this.
- The proper day 1 is probably the toughest day. This means I hit day 1 with a little bit of success already in the bag, a little bit of the work done, a little momentum already.
This means that today I ate a normal breakfast and lunch, then had a meal replacement shake as an early dinner. Feeling fairly hungry this evening, but manageable.
